{WIP Update}

As the Hey Teach collects dust and the Modern Log Blanket lumbers along slowly, I've been knitting away on the Cedar Leaf Shawlette. Here's the picture I fell in love with:

I'm just about at the point where I need to think about the leaf edging, and here's what I'm looking at:

I am really enjoying this yarn; it's soft and squishy. Problem is, I know that I'm not a fan of the striping kind of yarn like this, but I thought these colours were subtle enough that it wouldn't look too "stripey." Well... I was wrong. So now I'm in a bind. The leaf edging is going to be the most time consuming part of this project, and I'm not sure that I want my leaves to be cream, grey and tan. I'm thinking maybe I just add a cute crochet edging and call it a day? I'll probably still wear it... or if not I'll gift it...

What do you guys think?

  1. I'm sort of with you on the variegated yarn; I've had a similar experience before.

    However, it's hard to see what it looks like as I can't see the whole shawlette, and anyway you might prefer it when it's finished and has all come together. That also doesn't mean to say someone else won't like it even if you still don't, once you've finished. Hand-knits are such a kind and personal gift and you'll make someone's day if you end up giving it away.

  2. Love the little shawlette! I'm going to send a link to your blog to another blogger in S.C. who also knits and crochets.

    Found you through Lisa's blog I think..lol, gosh I visit so many I forget who I met where!

    Nice to meet another Roanoke blogger!!

  3. It is very cute.. as a crocheter if I wasn't happy with it I wouldn't invest too much time either... I buy my yeast in a jar at the gorcery store. I probably get about 14 loaves out of it. Here's a link to buy yeast in bulk off of King Arthur's web site :)

  4. The leaves are so pretty, I hate to think of the shawlette without them! Could you do them in a contrasting shade of green?

    BTW I need to swift my yarn to start this project. I'm a little afraid of the wraps -- but I know I need to figure them out some day!

  5. Go for the leaf edging. If you don't like how it looks, you can either overdye or give it to someone who loves it. *winkwinknudgenudge* ;) I personally think it'll turn out beautiful and you won't want to let anyone near it for fear of them thieving it.

  6. Snappy Di pointed me over here. Glad she did! I'm with you about the stripey yarn. If I use them I perfer mine with longer color strands. As for the edging, I would go the crochet route, especially if you aren't all that wild about this garment. Get it completed and off the needles and into the FO bin:)
