{Scrappy Scarf Finished}

I finally had enough scraps to make a scrappy scarf and in this process i've learned that i like crocheting scarves a lot better than knitting them because it's SO much faster. I guess this means I'll need more than one hook? lol . Here's my finished product, unblocked.

Hey - I got my hair cut today, too! It's sorta messy here, but I'm
sure I'll post another eventually.

I've received tons of compliments on this one so far! It was done super random and I left all the ties where i switched yarns for an extra deconstructed kind of detail. Even Mr Pie likes it!

mmmmmm warm

{The Rest of The Sweater}

I started out yesterday showing you how I cut off the arm of a Goodwill sweater and covered a glass vase that I wasn't too fond of just by gluing down the edges with my hot glue gun.

The remainder of the sweater went right in to the washing machine and I tried my hand at felting for the first time! When it came out it was a lovely thick fabric, but I hadn't anticipated that it would shrink a lot more length wise than width wise. "No matter," I told myself, and proceeded anyway. I cut from armpit to armpit of the sweater, front and back, only detouring to make the cut outs for the handles. I seamed up the bottom just using a whip stitch, and I had a bag! It was terribly inefficient though because it was so darn wide and not very deep. lol It didn't hold anything, basically! So back to the drawing board. I cut out a piece of burlap for a base for my new bag and Ta-Da!

I added a couple of cute embelishments by crocheting some flowers out of the scrumptious yarn that I won on LizzKnits blog, as well as doing a whip stitch all the way around the cut edges. I am in LOVE with crafting with that yarn!

Isn't the variation in the yarn, beautiful? And I adore how the cool greens and warm greens play off of one another. Paired with the burlap? Too much cute! I don't know if bags like this are super duper my style or anything, but it's super practical - as evidenced by the yarn that now has a home!

I think my dining room drapes might need some burlap added to the bottom of them, but the idea of trying to hem it by hand is kind of intimidating. lol

Scarf and Hat Set is Done!

When I first cast on my first attempt at crochet, back during the Hand Emergency of '09, my main thought was only to keep creating without the pain in my left hand, not "Oo! I could make a cool matching set!" But, in the end, My First Crochet ended up being paired with My First Fair Isle to make this very cute set!

I like that it's not really "matchy matchy", just made in the same colours. The scarf is a little longer than you can see, with fringe on the end. Here's the hat inside out! Isn't it purdy?

Of course, neither have been blocked yet because I still haven't purchased blocking squares and have instead been using my bedroom mattress. Well... hmmm... the sheets probably should be washed today.... hehehe

Another Christmas Project Done!

This one for my brand new baby niece, Alora. The. Cutest. Eva.

Do you remember just a week ago when I finished the V-neck pull over sweater for my dad? After that was finished, I had a TON of the rich chocolate brown acrylic left over. It's Caron's Simply Soft Eco, and it really is soft! So I thought to make something kinda matchy for Alora just 'cause I find it amusing that my dad and his grand daughter will have matching sweaters. hehehe!

It came together so quickly I didn't even get a chance to post anything in progress! The funny shaped little brown pieces wouldn't have meant much. lol The pattern is pretty much exactly the same as the one on Lion Brand's website (oh, and you need to login to get to the pattern) except for the single crochet edging which I did in a pale pink. The tie goes all the way around her back to make the bow.

Here's a detail shot:

According to Ravelry this one took me 5 days to complete. I think baby clothes are my favoritest thing to knit!! :D

Next up I think will be a bit of dying. I have some balls of mercerized wool from my knit picks order that are still naked. But first lunch and some clean up. :)

I Didn't Know I Could Crochet!

Well, just a little. I made this new discovery after I got bored with the rounds and rounds of knit stitch on the vest. There was a blogger somewhere that mentioned she loved knitting dishclothes when she got bored with a long project, so I thought I'd try my hand at it!

I first I tried a lovely leafy lace pattern and that wasn't working out for me and I ripped it out after about 6 rows. Start at the beginning, right? So I did one of these:

The tried and true! I had never knit anything on a bias before, so that was new. I really enjoyed watching the shape come to life as I knit more rows! Then at the end I went and found a tutorial for single row crocheting and went to town around the outside! I must say, I'm awfully impressed with myself! I think I'm going to create a second one in white with the natural border. I'm looking forward to trying more interesting patterns for these!

Last night, apart from the project above, I also took apart the first of the red sweaters. It sits in pieces behind me at the moment. I won't be able to start the actual frogging until Mr. Pie isn't working night shift anymore because he needs to keep the furry child away from me. Popeye, our kitty, goes NUTS when I start ripping out all that yarn, like it's his personal playground! And I can't do anything about it because my hands are tied up. So that project shall wait for next week.
