{My First Craft Show}

There's a really neat little cafe right in the heart of our tiny downtown named the Club Car Cafe.  They've decided to open up one Saturday a month to do a "Craft Showcase."  Very select... only about 6-8 vendors per weekend can have tables set up and they will only choose vendors that sell the product that they craft themselves.  The owner's daughter makes beaded jewelry... that kind of thing, and they asked if I'd like to set up a table for their first one on May 7th, the same day as our Heritage Day.  They are expecting a TON of traffic, which probably means I need to get some stuff actually knit between now and then!

What I need help with is coming up with ideas for what to knit between now and then for a summer Knitting booth. What do people buy during the summer?  My ideas so far are:
  • Wash clothes
  • Face clothes
  • Baby bibs
  • Baby booties
  • Pot holders
  • Trivets (felted wool maybe?)
  • Purses... not sure what kind of pattern I'll use though.  I've never really knit purses, but the owner really likes knitted purses.  No clue what I'll do here. lol
Any other ideas, guys? Or do you know how I would use someone's pattern for making selling the item?  I know enough to know that I can't do it without asking them... but do you know how that normally works?

Thanks guys! Wish me luck! :)

  2. Market bags! Summer is farmers market season.

    You could make Nalgene or Klean Kanteen cozies out of wool. The wool helps soak up water droplets on the outside of the bottles and it helps insulate so water stays cold longer.

    You could also make knit sleeves for paper coffee cups. People drink hot coffee year round.

  3. Wishing you much luck... Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you as far as what to knit that would sell in the warmer months of the year.

  6. I like all your idea's. I really like the idea of Market bags. I know it is summer or spring, but how about a shawl or two. Maybe even a lacy scarf?

  7. you know, i asked this same question on the Rav forums a few months ago and someone told me that the copyright a person holds on a pattern they've written only extends to the pattern, not to knitted items made from the pattern. so from what they said, technically it's not copyright infringement to sell things knit from someone else's patterns, even if they say in their pattern that you're not allowed to do so. they did however say that it's usually considered bad manners, so asking permission might be a nice courtesy.

    and i agree with what AndiPants said about market bags, i think those would be a hot seller during the summer.

    this sounds like an exciting opportunity for you, be sure to let us all know how it works out :)
