I've knit a grand total of two pairs of socks in my life so far. Remember these?
They are so so soft and warm and comfy. They were made from a recycled Good Will sweater that was a wool and angora combo but unfortunately, they're just not holding up.
Exhibit A:
I've got some leather soles that I saved off an older pair of bought mukluks so I think I'll sew those on so these socks can live another season. hehe But! I would like to know folks... what's your favorite sock yarn? I plan on making some fluffy winter house socks like this as Christmas gifts this year and less than one year's wear is not good enough!
Thanks!
I like the idea of using the leather soles!
ReplyDeleteah, there are so many! Hard to narrow down....I am currently in love with Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine and Knit Picks Stroll Tonal. But Dream in Color Smooshy is a fave too...and Socks That Rock...See, I knew it would be hard to narrow down!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! How did you go about recycling the yarn? I've never done socks before.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of knitpicks stroll yarn. I just started knitting socks and I love their colors and their yarn is soft yet pliable.
ReplyDeleteI often make house socks out of a worsted-weight wool/acrylic blend. If I'm doing sock-weight, you can't beat Opal or Trekking XXL for durability. They come in great colors, too.
ReplyDeleteAngora is just too soft for socks one actually walks in; but it makes nice "bed" socks. I like to turn down the heat in the bedroom, 'coz I sleep better with cool air on my face, but sometimes it's a bit chilly for the toes. I have just such a huge pile of sweaters from Goodwill, to be unraveled & recycled! Another item on the To Do List....
