And it's really. really. Ugly. LOL
I just saw it on me in the mirror for a moment, but yeah. It's really terribly unflattering. lol It's going to get frogged at some point, but I'll have to decide if I have the cajones to put it on again and take a picture. lol
*sigh*
I'm really disappointed, but chalking it up to experience I suppose. Oh well, that yarn will make a nice scarf. lol
I think it's rare that the first sweater is anything other than a learning experience. To be honest, I'm shocked when I see a perfectly fitting first sweater that someone has produced on ravelry. I always think "Is that your first sweater? Or first sweater that you feel comfortable posting on the interweb?" My first sweater was 46''. I'm a 38''. Happy Knitting!
ReplyDeleteI've been there many times! Yes, experience is worth a lot!
ReplyDeleteI made the first sweater for myself and it sits in my draw never to be looked at again. I went right back to the needles and a new project. No time to look back.
ReplyDeleteAwww, baby girl! Tell ya what, just send *me* the picture and I'll let you know if you should post it or not *grins*
ReplyDeleteI sent your blog link to grandpa the other day and he LOVES it!!
xoxo
lol uh oh. Hey, I can't even figure out how to frog a sweater much less knit or crochet one. Thank you for your amazing comment on my blog. I really do want us to get together again, too. I've been too embarrassed to say that my car still isn't fixed. The next two weekends I'm going to be busy working the Healing Through Creativity Festival. After that, I can breathe again and maybe we'll get the car fixed. lol
ReplyDeleteOh noes :( My first sweater was a disaster too. My gauge changed radically between the front and back and I didn't know how to seam shoulders and, um, yeaaaah. The yarn I used wasn't even nice enough to recover!
ReplyDeleteAww, it's ok. Yes, first sweaters almost always have something wrong with them. It's life. I'd suggest that in a while you try that sweater again, but with a much smaller gauge and a less wooly yarn, and I think it has the possibility of being very flattering.
ReplyDeleteBut really, don't worry about it! Cast on something tried and true to knit for a while and just have fun with it for a bit while you recover. ;-)
Just think, even though it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, at least you know you can make a sweater! Next time, it will turn out a lot better. Also, I am sure there was some point that you didn't have enough experience to even try it. (I am still at that point.) :) So, you have grown a lot as a knitter already, and are closer to that perfect sweater. :)
ReplyDeletebut hey... you made it! Congrats on the completing your first sweater!
ReplyDeleteI have never even finished sewing up my first sweater because I know it is going to look awful. I love my sweater number two though!
