Are you my Mother? If in fact, you are the Mother to the writer of this blog, I insist you close this window now. I will be showing off details of your Christmas gift, and I don't want you ruining the surprise!

Is she gone? No? She probably scrolled just a little to see if I was being serious.

Okay. I think we're safe now. :D
I got yarn in the mail!! I've become fast friends with V, an independent dyer from the fabulous Vberry on Etsy. We email pretty much daily. hehe I hope one day I'll get to meet her in person! Well, I was lamenting how I'd need to find some silvery-gray yarn for my mom's shawl for Christmas and she offered to dye some up! I was SUPER excited.
She ran the yarn through her cycle once and it came out a little too light for what I was going for, so she went to run it through again. Weeeeeeeeeeeeell, there just *happened* to have been a skein of red yarn in the sink before my gray yarn and some imperceptible red dye still lurked. It's given the yarn a little bit of a pinkish- hue in some odd spots around the yarn and I L.O.V.E it!!
Can you see the itsy bitsy pinks peeking through? IT's gorgeous! AND , it's even prettier all caked up! (they always are, aren't they?)
I'm dying to get started on this project, but I can't pick the perfect shawl pattern. I was thinking something triangle, that'll be complete in 450 yards or so of this fingering (or maybe add a cream border if necessary?). I was looking for something interesting/fun lace to knit, but with the purl on the back row because I like the look of it better. Maybe a corner to corner construction one? I don't mind if it's not free this time, since V sent me this yarn FREE of charge because of the pink mix up! She's the awesomest! :D
So what are your favorite lace shawl patterns?
Lucky you! I love that colour. Isn't it kinda sad how something so pretty came to be by accident? It'll be hell to try and reproduce that!
ReplyDeletethank you for moving it!!! I really, really wanted to peek. ARRGGG! sometimes its no fun being a grown up... *grins*
ReplyDeleteLove you!
I haven't done any lace shawls yet, but I do remember seeing one in the knitpicks catalog not too far back. It was made with some crazy colored yarn, but I bet it would look good in silver too.
ReplyDeleteOh I couldn't find a link to it, but I did find another shawl pattern from knitpicks that caught my eye.

Hi hun!
ReplyDeleteWe're back from England, and I'm just catching up on all blogs and messages! The yarn looks really, really lovely, and I thought I'd recommend the smaller patterns by designer Monika Eckert (she's on Ravelry). I own most of them, so just drop me a line if you find anything you like :)
Hugs!
