{Fat Quarter bundle Pack?}

Hey my sewing friends out there (do I have many of those yet? hehe)  I found this cool blog called FatQuarterBonanza.com.  They happen to be having a sale on Mystery Bundles of fat quarters.  12 of them for $15 to be precise.  Is that a good price? Shipping is about $5 more.  What if I get all ugly fabrics that I don't like?  I'll feel stupid for having wasted $20.

I'm on the fence about this one.  What do you guys think?

  1. The price is good. You are getting- 3 yards of fabric - right? And for $20. The only thing is that you don't know what you are getting. I'd be a little reluctant to get it just because you have no idea what kind of fabric it would be. But...at the same time, you could always use the fabric to make things like small, reusable gift bags for b-day/Christmas pressies or somehting. Ok, I guess I'm no help to you at all. Sorry

  2. I wouldn't go for it. With shipping that comes to $20, and for that you can get two yards of really great stuff that you're sure you love! I'd be scared that all of the "mystery fabric" is stuff that no one really wants.

  3. hmmm...12 fat quarters for 15$? honestly that's not that great a deal, especially when you add the 5$ for shipping. the average yard of good quality cotton fabric is anywhere from 3-10$ per yard, most being in the 5-8$ range i'd say. so when you do the math, you're going to be paying a little less than 7$ per total yard of fabric. i personally would rather just buy a few contiguous yards of fabric that i know i'll like than take a chance on a bunch of fat quarters i might not like for the same price. BUT if you're getting into quilting it might be a good way to get a bunch of different fabrics you can practice with.

  4. I would hold out unless you don't have any fabric to quilt with at the moment. I just cleaned out my stash of fabric and there was so much stuff there that I didn't really love but bought because it was cheap.

  5. I probably wouldn't do it, I like to pick out my fat quarters at the shop I go to so I can pick and choose exactly what shades and patterns I want :) may be a little more expensive though

  6. I agree with what seems to be everybody else, mystery bundle equals maybe one amazing piece and the rest? Not so much. 20 0bucks on fabric you may not ever use haunting you until you give it away to somebody else who is just learning how to sew.

  7. You should set up a 'fabric trade system' so that if someone else got fabrics you like and vice versa a free trade could happen between you.

    Could probably just set it up as a blog? Just a thought.. OR, add a tab at the top of your blog and set up a page with photos of the fabrics you are willing to trade, or sell them on Craigslist. Tons of ways to get rid of the 'unwanted' fabrics.
