{I Embroidered!}

You guys have GOT to see this! I am so proud!!  After watching a couple of different videos and reading up on preparing to embroider, I figured out how it's done! My friend Lisa from Molto Di Moda was gracious enough to send me some embroidery floss from her stash and a tiny hoop!  I used a needle here from home and almost panicked because I didn't have one the floss fit through... until I realized you weren't supposed to use all 6 strands. (duh). lol

Mr. Pie couldn't find any kind of transfer paper or fabric pencil or carbon paper at the Walmart nearby so we went with Tissue Paper.  I first printed my design from UrbanThreads.com and traced it on to my tracing paper.  Then I just stretched it in the hoop along with my fabric!

As you can see, I didn't even take "process" photos, I was so excited to get this little project done. :)

I took the hoop off and TA DA!

As you can see, I was so excited to get started that I didn't even iron my muslin. lol I'll probably have to find a way to do that now! LOL  I will probably continue to use the tissue paper method because now I have what I need to do that, but getting the paper out from between each of the designs was pretty annoying. lol Didn't take too long though and I had a huge pile of tiny paper pieces when I was done.  Maybe I'll use it for packing material?  hmmm.. maybe that's reusing to an extreme. hehe

What do you think? I love her!

  2. Wow! This looks great! Are you going to try embroidering on your plant holder? I was pondering it a bit and it might be easier for you to embroider labels and then sew them on. That way it would be easier to change the labels and easier to embroider.

  7. Beautiful job! I would try steaming her instead of ironing to get the creases out. Other than that, it looks fan-tas-tic!!

  13. Beautiful! The linen fabric looks fairly light weight; you may well be able to trace the design directly onto the fabric as well.

  14. Beautiful! Love the work you have done. You can throw the muslin in the dryer with a slightly damp washcloth and that will get the creases out :)

  15. This is so pretty! You must be very proud, it's just gorgeous.
    Ironing: try to put some soft padding underneath and then put the embroidery 'face down' so to speak. Press the wrong side with your iron more than moving it in an ironing/to and fro motion - that should do the trick and keep your beautiful work just as lovely!
    Pressing from the wrong size, plus padding, makes sure that your stitches don't look glued into the fabric. Let us know how it went!

  18. What a beautiful picture. It reminds me of a vase I have. I call it, "The Lady's Head Vase." It had a philodendron growing out of it at my grandparents' house. I love doing embroidery.
