{I Survived!}

Just a quick note to let everyone know I survived the Calculus test yesterday.  I still don't know if I passed, but I feel okay about it.  Thank you so much for the wonderful messages of encouragement - they mean so so much!

I'm actually in class right now, so I'll talk to you soon!

{Yarn! and in the knick of time}

It's hard to complain about a Calculus test when I've just been reading the news out of Japan.  I realize that in the global scale of things failing one Calculus test (or even a calculus course) doesn't affect my health or my family's health.  So even though I'm about to complain about Math, I do keep in mind that other people in the world have much much more to worry about.

For me personally though, this has been hanging over my head for a month now.  I feel like I'm going to need ptsd therapy by the time I'm through.  I'm just stressed 24/7 about making it through this course - I've been crying and losing sleep about it for almost three weeks now.  I still don't know how I'm going to do it.  Today I'm working my way slowly through problems that will be on tomorrow's test and hoping that I manage to remember half of the material.  For a student who has only received one B grade among the rest of her A's, the prospect of failing an exam is excruciating.  It's worth a full quarter of my over-all grade for the class.

So where I do I retreat for temporary sanity?  Yarn.  I got my order from Gaias Colours today!  I've taken pictures to share with all of you. :)

Pales Fluffy DK in Redwood

Pales Fluffy DK in Cup of Clay
These are both 100% Superwash and I think are going to be slated as small shawls.

Heithrun Sock in an oopsie colourway that I am ADORING.
80% Superwash/ 10% CASHMERE/ 10% Nylon.  Yum.

and lastly, the re-order of  the Umaj Bamboo/Merino Sock Yarn to finish a pair of socks that have been languishing:

but, as you can tell, my colourway isn't quite right, so the socks have been pulled off those dpn's that were holding my live stitches.  I haven't decided if I want to knit new socks holding the two yarns double (making them super fluffy and soft) or if I want to knit one row from one cake, then the the next row from the other... I'm just not sure.   I even think the the newer yarn is a little bit more loosely spun, so I'll have to decide what I'm going to do with this predicament.  but I LOVE the yarn and the colourway both.  Whatever I decide to do, it won't be a waste of this gorgeous yarn.

Alrighty, back to the math for me.  Next break maybe I'll search pattern, or maybe do a little knitting.  We'll see. :)

{Socks and More Socks}

School has been so freaking stressful lately, that all I've been able to knit is vanilla socks (or near vanilla with this Hermoine's Everyday Socks)

These brown socks were made of Knit Picks Stroll Tonal and I really really enjoyed knitting with it.  They make a sock that's soft, but feels sturdy.  I'm looking forward to see if they wear well because if they do, it might become my new favoritest sock yarn ever.

Here's my ankle socks make from Sock It To Me, only 50 g and with some left over.  I tried the afterthought heel and I liked it, especially for this stripey yarn.

And now that the socks are done, I've tried picking up the 22 Leaves Shawlette. It's a gorgeous pattern but  I just couldn't pay that much attention to that many charts, so today I frogged it in favour of the Autumn Calais Shawl.  The yarn, Madelinetosh Merino  Light, just didn't want to be that shawl though.  It wasn't crisp enough for the main pattern.  After ripping it out for the second time, I cast on Cinnamon Grace which is a much simpler pattern with basically stockinette and a garder stitch border. I'm much happier with it because it's really showing off the colours in this gorgeous Amber Trinket colour.  There are flecks of bright orange and pink amongst the amber colour.

Wish me luck! Picks of that one soon.  Oh... and a little luck will go a long way this semester as school, so if you happen to find any, will you send it my way?

{A Favourite Dyer - Going Out Of Business}

Hey folks, I have good news and bad news.  Gaia's Colours, one of my favorite Indy Dyers has decided to close up shop.  That's the bad news.  The good news is she's offering SUPER discounts on all the yarn is has in stock!  She has mostly luxury yarns, like sock yarns including silk and cashmere.  I just bought me some more of this yarn here:

It's a gorgeous and durable sock yarn that I LOVE.  On sale now for $13.80 instead of $23.00.  I also purchased a few of her other oopsy colours that looked beautiful.  I bought 300 yards of DK SW Merino for $11.00, and another skein of sock yarn for $13.00.  The shipping will take a while because she's shipping from British Columbia to the states. But it's worth the wait!!

enjoy!
